Boost Your Brew

Starting off the day with a cup (or three) of coffee is a key component of many people’s morning routines. Whether you choose drip coffee, a craft latte, or a single espresso shot, your beverage of choice will surely provide an energy boost. But what if it could provide you with additional nutritional benefits?

Adding supplements to your diet is a choice you should make with your personal medical history and dietary needs in mind. Not every supplement is for every person, so be sure to use your best judgment or consult your medical provider before stirring in a supplement.
Collagen
A starter supplement for those who are new to the world of additives is collagen. It is an easy and fairly mild supplement that is able to be added to any warm beverage, especially coffee. 2 tablespoons of collagen peptides contain a hearty dose of protein without a high amount of calories per serving. If drinking traditional drip coffee, stir the collagen right into your mug and sip away. If creating a more artisanal coffee drink such as a latte, you may find it easier to mix the collagen into the milk while frothing. Both methods will provide you with optimal benefits such as glowing skin, healthy hair and nails, improved digestion, and overall better health.
Lion’s Mane
Want to walk on the wild side? Consider adding lion’s mane to your coffee. Lion’s mane has made medical news recently as it is a mushroom referable under the scientific name of Hericium Erinaceus, and it is believed to prevent dementia and aid in the relief of adverse side effects commonly associated with mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. Lion’s mane has an earthier taste compared to collagen; however, it still dissolves well into hot beverages and delivers a natural calming effect, something that can help balance out the caffeine from coffee.
CBD
The last supplement that is often added to coffee is CBD. Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a derivative of the cannabis plant and provides all of the calming effects associated with marijuana usage without a high, as it is THC-free and safe to use. Using CBD does not have an effect on drug tests, nor does it impact one's ability to operate a vehicle in the way that traditional cannabis use would.
